TV Shows That Have The Best Pilot Episodes

Here is a list of some of the best pilot episodes which were aired that helped make or break the series.

1. Freaks And Geeks

This show launched the career of Seth Rogen, James Franco, Jason Segel and many others. It was a hilarious show and audience loved to watch this high school tale. The series was set in 1980s and revolved around a bunch of high school students and how they faced different types of struggles in their own way. The show included footballs and cheerleaders and lots of fun. The series became an instant hit among the mass as youngsters were able to relate with the teenagers and the hardships that they faced.

2. THE X-FILES

Who can forget the chemistry between our beloved Mulder and Scully. After all it was one of the reasons why we all loved to watch this show. They were like two bodies one mind (and heart). The way they solved cases with teamwork was really intriguing to watch. The two main characters played by David Duchovny and Gillian were introduced beautifully in the pilot episode. Mulder’s funny nature and Scully’s sarcasm was an interesting combination.

The episode was directed by Robert Mandel. We also got to see Smoking Man who later in the show went on to become one of the series main antagonist. The episode   showed us FBI agents Mulder and Scull solving a murder case together for the very first time.

3. Mad Men – Smoke Gets In Your Eyes

The creator of the show was Matthew Weiner  and it was produced by the one and only Lionsgate Television. It launched with a bang on July 19, 2007 and stayed one of the highest rated television series ever till 2015(and still after that!). The series set in 1960s, revolved around the Don Draper, played by Jon Hamm, and how he tries to sell cigarettes among the masses amidst the growing awareness of its harmful effects.

4. The Walking Dead – Days Gone Bye

This show remained one of the top most shows for a very long time before its descending popularity in some of the last few seasons. The pilot of the series is considered of the best and highest rated TV pilots of all time. The episode was directed by Frank Darabont. It contained horror, tension, gore and suspense. It was scary to watch it the first time.

The show opened with the scene of Rick Grimes who wakes up in a hospital ward. He cannot remember how he ended up there. To his shock, there is not a single person in the whole hospital. As we go forward the mystery keeps unravelling and the suspense becomes more heavier. The pilot was titled as Days Gone Bye. The series is actually based on a comic showing Rick’s journey into the world of mystery and suspense (and of course gore!). We all love zombies and the pilot of this show was one of the most loved of the series of all times.
