Saying Goodbye to Dry Skin with these Effective Natural Remedies

A lot of women tend to spend sleepless nights over their problem of dry skin.  Dry skin is a condition which can be attributed to a number of different reasons. In fact, there are endless disputes amongst experts regarding the real causes behind the dryness of skin. This problem becomes even more severe during the harsh cold winter months. Excessive dryness often leads to itchy, flaky skin which can be quite irritating indeed! The strong winds of winter can further deplete the moisture content of your skin. Abiding by these simple remedies would help you in alleviating this problem and fetch you a deep sigh of relief!

Drinking plenty of fluids

Dry skin can be primarily attributed to the inactivity of the sebaceous glands of your body. The sebaceous glands are responsible for secreting the fat named ‘sebum’. Whenever there is a deficiency of sebum, the skin appears dry and dull. The inactivity of the sebaceous glands might be due to hormonal imbalances or nutritional deficiencies, so it is extremely vital to lead a healthy lifestyle and consume a balanced diet on a regular basis. It is an absolute necessity to keep yourself well hydrated, with at least 3 to 4 liters of water a day. Drinking plenty of fluids in the form of fresh fruit juices, clear vegetable soups or herbal tea would help in destroying those free radicals and prevent premature ageing of your skin.

Nourishing cream for hydrating dry skin

Instead of washing your face with chemical soaps, try face washes which are rich in moisturizers and have been specially formulated for dry skin. Before going to bed every night, massage your face with a nourishing cream using gentle upward strokes. Within a few days you would spot the difference. And when you wake up in the morning, wash your face thoroughly with a hydrating face wash, and gently pat it dry using a soft towel.

Preparing your own natural skincare products at home

Try to stick to shower gels or body washes which are absolutely free from harmful chemicals. There are certain chemicals used in these products which tend to aggravate the problem of dry skin. You can even prepare your own body wash at home using sugar and olive oil with a few drops of essential oil added to it for a wonderful fragrance. After bath, never forget to apply a rich body butter all over your skin while it is still moist. Cocoa butter or shea butter can simply work wonders for dry your skin by making it look supple and youthful!

DIY face-packs using honey and eggs

Honey is an excellent natural moisture and its boasts of anti-bacterial properties as well. You can prepare a mixture of honey and yogurt and leave it on your skin for a few minutes before washing off. Doing this on every alternate day would leave your skin feeling silky and keep those wrinkles at bay. Since eggs are vast reservoirs of protein, you can also try a face pack containing an egg yolk, a teaspoon each of almond and olive oil, and a few drops of rose water. The result will be visible in a few days.
