How to Make Banana Cream Pie

For starters, let’s look into the ingredients!

There are two parts to your pie, the crust and the filling.

For the crust you would need 1 cup of all purpose flower, 1/3 cup of lard or shortening, ¾ tablespoon of water and ¼ tablespoon salt or as per required.

For the filling, you would require 2/3 cup of sugar, ¼ cup of cornstarch, 1 cup whipped cream, 3 cups milk, 2 tablespoon softened butter, 4 large egg yolks (preferably beaten), 1 tablespoon vanilla extract, 2 to 3 large sliced banana and salt to taste.

Now, let’s begin!

Preheat your oven to about 475* F. Now, to prepare the crust, take a microwave bowl and mix the salt with the flour. Cut the shortening or lard into small pieces until they look like small coarse crumbs. Now add water to the mixture very slowly, all the while turning the mixture so the water mixes evenly and doesn’t form a puddle in your bowl. The mixture will turn into a smooth dough and stop sticking to the sides of the bowl. Add more water if you deem it necessary.

Now take out the dough and roll it on a plane but slightly floured surface until it forms a flattened disc. Make sure the disc is slightly (2 inches precisely) larger than your pie bowl on all sides. Now ease the dough disc into your pie plate very gently so that it does not tear out. After this, trim the edges of your dough slightly (about 1 inches approximately) past the rim of your pie plate so that it folds and the flute. How well you roll in the dough makes your banana cream pie truly amazing.

After this prick the bottom and sides of the crust with a fork or a knife and then bake for about 8 to 10 minutes.

Now let’s start with the filling. Take a medium sized saucepan and add the cornstarch, sugar and salt. Mix evenly and then gradually whisk in the milk. Cook the mixture over medium heat for about 6 minutes until the mixture starts to thicken and boil all this while continuously stirring it. Let it simmer for another minute and then add in the butter and the vanilla essence. Let it cool down a bit.

Now going back to the crust, arrange banana slices on the baked layer that creates another layer over it. Try to arrange them as evenly as possible. After this pour in the cooled mixture over it and smooth down the surface with a knife. Refrigerate this for about two hours until set.

Garnish it with whipped cream or banana slices and voila, your pie is ready! The only challenge left now is how well you can serve the delicious banana cream pie.
